Our Projects

Portola lighting project & new murals

Through funding from Avenue Greenlight and the Civic Joy Fund, we installed nine blocks of string lighting on San Bruno Avenue between Silver and Mansell, as well as a new mural by Neil G. Ballard next to Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

COVID-19: Supporting our businesses and our community (ongoing)

Greenway Project (ongoing)

The Portola Neighborhood Association has partnered with a diverse group of residents and stakeholders to create the The Green Between —the repurposing of an overgrown Caltrans easement located on a sliver of unused land between the west side of US-101 and the backside of the diverse San Bruno Avenue business corridor.

Increasing traffic safety on Silliman and San Bruno Ave (2021 - 2022)

To reduce congestion, the PNA worked with the SFMTA and businesses to update the meters and color curbs at Silliman and San Bruno to promote turnover and reduce double-parking. We need your help to get SFMTA to enforce the new meters by bringing more parking control officers to the area. Learn how to report double-parking on 311 so we can provide the City with vital statistics on the double-parking issues in the Portola. Together, we can increase traffic and pedestrian safety.

Multi-Mural Community Art Project (2019-2020): Phase 1

Felton Parking Lot Mosaic Benches (2020-21)

Portola Petals of Growth by Dana Albany was chosen through a community vote process as a design for the tiling of the benches, to be installed in 2021.

PNA Green Spaces under the Portola Garden Club (ongoing)

Portola Garden Club (PGC) provides opportunities for community members to actively engage in greening activities, and advocates for the creation of public green spaces in the Portola.

Façade Improvements (ongoing)

The PNA engages with corridor merchants interested in façade improvements for their buildings. In 2016, the PNA partnered with community leaders and city officials to secure funding for the restoration of the Avenue Theater marquee, a first step in reactivating this iconic building of the Portola.

Alemany Island Beautification Project (Ongoing from 2011)

Funded with a SF Community Challenge Grant, PNA volunteers installed the SF Garter Snake mural, the Portoloteria panels, and the native plants garden and won a Neighborhood Empowerment Network Award. PNA volunteers maintain the garden and art.

Security Camera Initiative (2020)

The Portola Neighborhood Association (PNA) and Portola Family Connections (PFC) are partnering to implement a new security cameras program on and near San Bruno Avenue.

Youth Arts Exchange Parklet (2020)

In partnership with the PNA, Breakfast at Tiffany’s accepted the installation of a parklet built by San Francisco’s Youth Art Exchange.

Murals (2016)

Partnering with the Grocery Outlet, the PNA commissioned Arthur Koch to install Portola Then & Now, and partnering with Youth Art Exchange and Breakfast at Tiffany’s, the PNA commissioned Nico Berry to install The Portola.
