About the Artist

Dana Albany is a mixed-media visual artist, specializing in metal sculpture and mosaic murals. She has created and exhibited for the de Young Museum, the Exploratorium, California Academy of Sciences, Burning Man, San Francisco and San Jose Arts Commission, SOMAR Gallery and the San Francisco Airport. She has made mosaic murals in health clinics, schools and transformed walls in Las Vegas, San Francisco and Berkeley, California. A theme throughout most of her work is that making art can be a community activity. She has lived in the Portola Garden District for over 17 years, appreciating all this neighborhood has to offer in diversity and nature. Excited by the Portola Neighborhood Association’s work activating gorgeous gardens, murals and community engagement over the recent years, she is thrilled to be able to have the opportunity to create a mosaic mural here as well! Particularly in this time of history, she is excited to create a beautiful mosaic for the community as people are emerging from Shelter-in-Place, and navigating through social unrest  towards a better, more unified future.
